Never thought I'd actually do it but I finished the big clowns circus drawing we have to do for Tardino. Lotta mistakes but it's about the big play right? In this case, the big circus.
Also some sketches for the new Glick project. Criteria was:
1.at least 3 characters
2.has to have a spatula somewhere
3. has to incorporate North America somehow.

Glossy prints in the CCAD library

So I've been trying to find a way to make better prints and I think I've found it. The color laser printer in the CCAD library produce prints that are a bit dark but the colors are really vibrant. The best quality I've gotten is on the glossy stock. The black ink is actually is so thick that it raises off the paper. Because of this the blacks get crushed but you can control it. Last print I made just blew me away. If you look closely you can see hue shifts within the darks and brush strokes raised off the paper. You can kinda see this in the angled pics. Probably lineart heavy pieces will look really sick on the glossy stock.

The actual image file and the scan of the print out shows a purplish tint (the famous Canon Red) but can be control once again. I'm going to try and use the scan of the print to soft proof in the future.

Gonna try the canon photo paper pro platinum tomorrow and see what's up. Even if the pro plat turns out better, the cost difference probably justify sticking with the library. About $4 per print vs 50c

Pochade box painting

I made this box with the plans from http://www.pochadeboxpaintings.com. I changed up a few things like making the box smaller and adding the wet panel carrier to the top. The little piece to adjust the panel carrier to accommodate smaller panels is just an extra piece I had left over from cutting the sides. It's fit in there with friction but if I need to, I can stuff paper in the side to keep it in place. If I were to make the box again though,I would change two things.

One is to use a thinner piece to support the T-nut and mounting the nut from the inside. That way, when the box is screwed to the tripod, the bottom will fit flush and the pressure will keep it more stable. I had an accident where the nut came off the box since the friction isn't enough to make the nut stay put on the box.

The other thing is to make the spacing between the inside part of the lid and the space where the first panel will fit in thicker. Right now, with the clips in place, I can only use the furthest notches to hold panels since the clips take up a lot of space inside.
